Acting for Mindfulness

WHAT IS ACTING FOR MINDFULNESS?

Acting for Mindfulness is an online training pathway that provides access to creative acting practices and performance for people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

The first course offered is "The Art of Presence," which is an 8-week online course that is open to student participants from all over Australia and internationally who are interested in trying acting, with a focus on mindfulness, breath work, and relaxation practices. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a 3-part monologue acting reel, a series of character headshots, a behind-the-scenes progress video, and assistance in finding an agent representation and support for their first acting gig.

THE AFM STORY

Phoenix Eye Films

Acting For Mindfulness (AFM) was created by Maria Tran and Takashi in April 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdowns in Australia, when many people were indoors.

The program was designed to address the gap in soft skills such as creativity, innovative thinking, speaking, presentation, and emotional intelligence among artists and individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Through their work with NGOs such as NSW Refugee Health, Diversity Arts Australia, and Fairfield City Council, Maria and Takashi created an 8-week pilot program that saw over a dozen participants complete the program with profound and measurable results, including increased confidence, self-esteem, and communication skills.

Many participants landed acting agents, got auditions for roles, and even landed roles on mainstream TV.
